A VISIT TO HOTEL CAFÉ CENTRAL IS A TREAT FOR GUESTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT ALIKE. ALONGSIDE THE PROVEN QUALITIES OF ITS HOTEL AND HOSPITALITY OPERATION, THE HOUSE IS ALSO TAKING A GREEN PATH IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND CLIMATE PROTECTION.

As a long-established hotel and coffee house, the Central has been a well-known and much-loved meeting point in Innsbruck’s city centre for 140 years. Alongside the wellbeing of its guests, the health of the environment and the climate is a top priority. Austria’s westernmost traditional Viennese coffee house thus makes an important contribution to a greener future, keenly aware of the example it sets as a Tyrolean hospitality and hotel business.

Regular guests of the coffee house have long known that Café Central is a place not only to eat very well and linger over a coffee, but also to enjoy a stay with an entirely clear conscience. Proof of this is its membership of “Klimabündnis Tirol”, a climate alliance that admits only businesses actively committed to climate protection, climate justice and a sustainable way of life.

One important yardstick for this is the lasting reduction of its ecological footprint, which the Central keeps small through several sustainability measures at once. In concrete terms, that means training all members of staff continuously in environmental awareness and making them alert to the ongoing, sustainable development of the business, reducing waste by expanding a self-developed waste separation concept, and conserving resources with sensible recycling measures.

The focus on sustainability also brings regional businesses more sharply into view – partners with whom Hotel Café Central has maintained appreciative and respectful relationships for years and decades already. This cooperation with environmentally conscious local suppliers and producers does not go unnoticed by the Central’s guests, who can look forward to organic products and regional seasonal delicacies.

The green standards of the house have long since found their way into hotel operations as well. By switching to recycled paper, sustainable cleaning products and green electricity, and by using dispensers for ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, yoghurt, shower gel and the like instead of environmentally harmful single-use packaging, the Central avoids a great deal of waste. The same applies to the hotel rooms, where every guest is glad to have shower caps and shoe-cleaning kits delivered straight to the room on request, while the house still makes every effort to avoid plastic and single-use packaging. At the same time, Hotel Central stocks only high-quality care products made 100 % from natural active ingredients from the Alpine region, produced climate-neutrally and sustainably, and leaving no plastic waste behind.

This commitment to environmental and climate protection has now been audited by official bodies and confirmed without conditions. Alongside the membership of “Klimabündnis Tirol” mentioned above, the Central is delighted to be the second hotel in Innsbruck admitted to the “Austrian Ecolabel Green Hotel”. In parallel, the Central secured certification with the “EU Ecolabel” as the very first hotel in all of Innsbruck – something that fills us with great pride and encourages us further in what we do.

As a central port of call for guests from all over the world in the heart of the Alps, the Central actively takes responsibility for the environment and plays its part in climate protection – so that guests can go on coming for a coffee and staying the night at the Central deliberately and, above all, with a clear environmental conscience.
